Liaoning, situated in northeastern China, enjoys a superb location, abundant material wealth, a long history and a splendid culture. This area is rich in history, myth and legend, and is considered one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilization. Many different peoples have mixed and mingled here, so it has also played an important role in the formation and development of China as a nation that unites different ethnic groups. 280,000 years ago, our ancestors began to flourish in Liaoning then gradually emerged from obscurity into civilization. 5,000 years ago, the early culture of the Hongshan people ushered in the brilliance of the Liao River valley civilization. The frequent migration of various regional states and civilizations during Bronze Age laid the groundwork for a unified, multi-ethnic nation. A variety of ethnic groups have successively flourished here since the Qin and Han periods, including the Huns, the Xianbei, the Koguryo, the Khitan, the Jurchen, the Mongols and the Manchu. Their encounters and exchanges with Han culture achieved an ethnic blending that created a rich history and brilliant culture. This exhibit aims to showcase Liaoning’s deep-rooted history and cultural greatness, as well as the fortitude and perseverance of its people.
