Porcelain, which is the great invention by Chinese people, has been the condensed outstanding wisdom and the spiritual inheritance of Chinese Ethnic Peoples for thousand years.
Originated from Eastern Han Dynasty, porcelain had underwent the development in several dynasties of Wei, Jin, Sui, Tang, Song and Yuan, experienced its peak during Ming and Qing dynasties. From the Ming period, Jiangxi Jingdezhen has become the capital of porcelain as “World Collection of Kiln Wares”, where the variety, quantity and sales of porcelain produced exceeded that of any other periods. After a brief prosperity in Yuan dynasty, blue-and-white porcelain had been innovated and promoted in Ming dynasty, thus becoming the main stream of porcelain production in the whole country; decorative porcelain represented by Chenghua over-glaze colors, copper-red glaze porcelain in the period of Xuande and other color glaze porcelains are unparalleled masterworks in the history of porcelain making with ingenious technology and artistic conception in elegance and calmness. By the Qing dynasty, porcelain industry reached the highest in history, particularly in the reign of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong period when porcelain wares were famous by exquisite, delicate and precise features, spreading to the whole regions over the country and extending to overseas. Among porcelain technology following the former generation, the newly created color enamels and rose porcelain with beauty added an extraordinary splendor to Chinese porcelain art.
Porcelain of Ming and Qing dynasties, collecting the great achievement of ancient technologies, truly recorded the immortal deeds by potters and reflected the glory of that time they were created.
