Paintings in Seal Characters-Artistic World of Wu Changshuo

Jointly held by Liaoning Provincial Museum and Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Exhibition of “Paintings in Seal Characters-Artistic World of Wu Changshuo” will open on October 28, 2016. In this exhibition, the paintings, calligraphies and seal-cutting works of Wu Changshuo and his following well-known artists in various periods collected in the two museums will be exhibited. The spectacular artist world of one grandmaster will be presented for the visitors while interpreting the charm of Chinese traditional arts.

 



Wu Changshuo (1844 to 1927), with old name of Jun, also named Junqing, Changshuo as forename, later called as forename, Fouweng, Kutie, etc. as nicknames, from Anji County of Zhejiang Province, is a master in the painting circle and is famous for his Shanghai style. Wu Changshuo is addicted to arts for life and is unparalleled in his generation in poetry, calligraphy, painting and seal cutting, called a real scholar and painter in modern history of painting. In recent hundred years, the artistic influence of Wu Changshuo has been lasting for so long, and his overall and magnificent achievements spread and benefit the artistic circle. Numerous well-known masters such as Chen Shizeng, Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Pan Tianshou, etc. have been edified and learned from the arts of Wu Changshuo.
